Machine pieced, machine quilted. Commercially printed and home printed cotton fabrics, various threads, Shiva Paintstick.
This piece was made especially for the 2007 Journal Quilt Project. I have always wanted to try printing photographs to fabric and using it in the same way that I use commercially printed fabrics, so this seemed a great time to try it since the project calls for using new techniques.
During my daily walks observing nature I noticed that some of the most disagreeable plants are some of the prettiest so I decided to watch poison ivy's progress from the tiny red-tinged shiny leaves of spring through the lush green of summer to the bright red of autumn. To carry the theme of the ivy leaves into the border I used an embossing technique and gold Shiva Paintstick.
