Quilt National

I got the news that “Mon Grand Père” did not make it into Quilt National. I’m pretty much not surprised, though of course there’s always hope til the last minute. This is a quilt I have been wanting to make for a long time, I’m glad it’s done, and I know that it will go other places.

This piece was inspired by an old family photograph in black and white.  I made some changes in the composition and of course made up the colors.  Artistic license!  The sky contains hand dyes but the rest is commercially printed fabric – probably frowned upon by QN, but the hunt for the right fabrics IS what I enjoy doing! There are 18 different grass fabrics alone.  It is 36.25 X 44.75″, machine pieced and machine quilted.

A detail shot can be seen in the Gallery section. I updated the Galleries and the Pattern section yesterday, adding in the newest INNOVATIONS pattern, “POPPY!” .

A wonderful piece, you just get better all the time! I am sorry that QN rejected it, their loss, I think. You’ll have to start a quilt for QN ’10 – giving yourself lots of time.

Thank you both! ’10? That’s a bunch of deadlines away. Who knows if I’ll even enter again!!

Sure you will. I’ll send some e-nags during the next two years to keep it in the forefront of your mind.
