Grasslands

Living as I do, at the edge of the Kansas Flinthills grasslands, it seemed like a good idea to feature them in my entry to the Kansas Art Quilters next exhibit, “My World”. I have been enmeshed these last few cold and rainy days in creating this small piece and this photo shows only a portion of it.

I have a plethora of grass fabrics to choose from for my nature quilts, but eventually the favorites run out. I had to piece some together in order to use this one as it is down to the dregs!

This is all I have left and I plan to get some binding out of it right now and finish up this piece.

I’ll be going through the Flint Hills the first week of April and your piece has captured the essence of their beauty. Is the sky one of your hand dyed pieces?

Great use of color — I love it!

Thank you both! The sky fabric is a commercial print of a hand dyed fabric. It was just a fat quarter with no printed selvedge so I can’t say for sure who the original artist was. I wish I had more of it. It really put limitations on the size of the scene and caused me to have to add more border than I would have liked in order to use it and still meet the size requirements of the exhibit.
